Got a chance to see this wonderful band play at Musicfest and they turned out to be one of my favorite bands there. This is originally a Papa Charlie song I believe. The guy singing and playing banjo is Dom Flemons, the lady is Rhiannon Giddens and the guy on jug is Justin Robinson. The Carolina Chocoalte Drops play mainly string band variety music and has a strong background in grassroots and bluegrass with a slight touch of beat box and rap. On the stage they had an abundance of instruments ranging from snare drum, banjo, fiddles, Dobro guitar, bone sticks, jugs, wood flute, harmonica, kazoo and a few other things which they would pick up at times during the show and perform on. One of the more powerful instruments on the stage was their voices – from the powerful gospel voice of Rhiannon, raspy pitch of Justin or the suave bluesy scats from Dom – this band knows how to use the endowment of the human voice to entice and entertain. Even when they are not playing a song, for example, when they break between songs to tune or switch instruments, there was a few entertaining stories or jokes thrown around. Dog agility is a dog sport in which a handler directs a dog through an obstacle course in a race for both time and accuracy. Dogs run off-leash with no food or toys as incentives, and the handler can touch neither dog nor obstacles.
